On November 2, the inaugural meeting of the temporary Party committee of MOFCOM staff stationed at the third China International Import Expo (CIIE) was held in Shanghai. The meeting conveyed and studied the important instructions of Zhong Shan, Secretary of the CPC Leadership Group and Minister of MOFCOM, to the Party organizations at all levels and Party cadres involved in the preparatory work. Wang Bingnan, member of the Party Leadership Group of MOFCOM and Vice Minister, and Ren Hongbin, member of the Party Leadership Group of MOFCOM and Assistant Minister, attended and addressed the meeting.

It was pointed out in the meeting that the CIIE is a major opening-up initiative proposed, planned, instructed and promoted by President Xi Jinping personally. The 3rd CIIE is an important international event held by China on trade and economic and diplomatic fronts while maintaining the epidemic containment protocols. To host the expo would help demonstrate China’s firm resolute to open up wider and promote cooperation, contribute to the efforts in ensuring stability on six fronts and maintaining security in six areas, and serve China’s strategy of boosting domestic demand and fostering a new development paradigm. The CIIE also provides a platform for China to show its achievement in fighting COVID-19 and how the country has acted out its responsibility to push forward the world economic recovery, thus boosting confidence and momentum for countries to defeat the virus and pursue economic recovery. To make more efforts to maintain political integrity, think in big-picture terms, follow the leadership core, and keep in alignment, to strengthen our confidence in the path, theory, system, and culture of socialism with Chinese characteristics, and to resolutely uphold General Secretary Xi Jinping’s core position on the Party Central Committee and in the Party as a whole, and resolutely uphold the Party Central Committee’s authority and its centralized, unified leadership, we need to fully understand the great responsibility on our shoulder, and leverage the key role of the Party organization and the exemplary and vanguard role of the Party members in the preparatory work.

The meeting stressed the need to strengthen the Party's overall leadership of the preparatory work of the CIIE. MOFCOM Party organizations at all levels, the temporary Party committee and temporary Party branches must enhance political awareness, fully implement the important instructions of General Secretary Xi, put the containment efforts at the first place, act with prudence, strive for perfection, so as to deliver a safe, splendid and successful international expo. We must give full play to the Party's political advantages, establish a sound organizational system, strengthen ideological and political work, improve conduct and disciplines in order to provide strong support for the CIIE. We must carry forward the great spirit of combating COVID-19, strengthen political responsibility, and make utmost efforts to get things done. We must take a holistic approach to show that our cadres are committed, professional and earnest in their internal and external work with strong political awareness. In carrying out containment routines and preparing for the expo, we must be guided by the spirit of driving the nail, study and carry through with concrete actions the spirit of the Fifth Plenary Session of the 19th CPC Central Committee, so as to contribute to the new development paradigm with domestic circulation as the mainstay and domestic and international circulations reinforcing each other.
